UK Train Stabbing Spree Leaves Nine Injured
(MENAFN) Nine passengers sustained injuries after a stabbing on a train in eastern England, police reported on Sunday.
The train, en route from Doncaster to London, made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon station, allowing officers to intervene.
Police confirmed two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder: a 32-year-old and a 35-year-old, both British nationals.
Of those injured, four have been discharged from hospital, while two remain in life-threatening condition, authorities said.
"At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident," the statement added, noting that counter-terrorism officers are supporting the investigation as they "work to establish the full circumstances and motivation."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the "appalling incident" as "deeply concerning," urging the public to heed guidance from local authorities.
Defence Secretary John Healey told media on Sunday that preliminary assessments suggest the stabbing was an "isolated attack."
