Lukashenko Warns of Western Military Threats Near Belarus
(MENAFN) Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday cautioned that Western nations are escalating military pressures along Belarus’ frontier, speaking to fellow leaders of a regional bloc in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Lukashenko expressed that Belarus increasingly resembles a “besieged fortress” as military spending rises across Europe, particularly in Germany and Poland, alongside what he described as antagonistic rhetoric.
He asserted, “Western politicians are deliberately preparing for war.”
The Belarusian leader also condemned Western efforts to isolate Minsk, citing border and airspace restrictions, as well as ongoing weapons deliveries to Ukraine.
Lukashenko claimed these arms are now “spreading all over the world,” exacerbating instability beyond the conflict zone.
He linked the wider geopolitical unrest to “tectonic shifts in international relations” and the near-collapse of global arms-control structures, which he said have become largely ineffective due to distrust and confrontation.
Lukashenko emphasized that Minsk supports initiatives to reduce tensions and advocates for renewed international discussions on security matters.
His statements were made at a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), whose members include Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
At the same event, Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged that Moscow will assist allies in strengthening their defense capabilities with Russian weaponry that has been “proven in combat.”
