Mahmood Fayazi

Dr. Mahmood Fayazi is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Program at Royal Roads University. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning from the University of Montreal. Dr. Fayazi specializes in post-disaster recovery, community-based disaster risk reduction, and vulnerability assessment; he has published on recovery policy, community resilience, and culturally grounded adaptation to climate change. His work focuses on equity, Indigenous self-determination, and the co-production of knowledge, supported by over $1 million in competitive research funding. Dr. Fayazi has conducted disaster management research across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and North America. He has also taught and supervised students at Royal Roads University, University of Montreal, McGill University, and York University in Canada, and Sichuan University in China.
