Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's new 13-member cabinet; comprising ten ministers, two advisers, and a special assistant, is set to be sworn in at 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Governor's House in Peshawar.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has approved the summary of appointments forwarded by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, marking the completion of the first phase of cabinet formation.

The newly appointed ministers include Mina Khan, Fazal Shakoor, Faisal Turkai, Aaqibullah, Arshad Ayub Khan, Aftab Alam, Dr Amjad, Khaliq-ur-Rehman, Riaz Khan, and Syed Fakhar Jehan. Meanwhile, Muzamil Aslam and Taj Muhammad Tarand have been appointed as advisers to the chief minister, while Shafeeullah Jan will serve as a special assistant.

The development comes just hours after CM Afridi, who replaced Ali Amin Gandapur as the provincial chief executive earlier this month, was once again denied permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan at Central Jail Rawalpindi, despite orders from the Islamabad High Court (IHC). This marks the fourth time since his election on October 13 that Afridi has been barred from meeting the jailed PTI leader.

The chief minister had earlier told the court that consultations with the party founder were essential before finalizing his cabinet. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Afridi said he had begun reviewing provincial affairs and had already received multiple departmental briefings, with more scheduled in the coming days.

The young PTI leader stated that consultations for a“short provincial cabinet” had been completed, adding that the appointments were made in line with the PTI founder's directions.

“Running provincial affairs requires the will to serve the people, not just experience,” CM Afridi remarked, emphasizing sincerity as the key to effective governance. He added that while over ten members have been included in the first phase, the remaining cabinet positions are still under consideration and will be announced later.
