Cairo, Oct. 30 (Petra)-- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi emphasized that the current stage requires shifting from crisis management to addressing the root causes of challenges through sustainable Arab solutions.
He noted that the Arab region continues to face complex and prolonged crises that necessitate strengthening joint Arab action, while reaffirming full solidarity with all Arab countries in confronting threats to any form of Arab national security.
Al Yamahi made these remarks during the general session of the Arab Parliament's second session of the fourth legislative term, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in the presence of Rolando Patricio, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino).
On developments in Palestine, Al Yamahi reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains the first and central issue for the Arab nation, stressing that achieving a just and comprehensive peace begins and ends with ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He praised the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza through intensive Arab and Islamic efforts. The historic agreement, hosted in the "City of Peace" Sharm El Sheikh, he said, requires unified Arab, Islamic, and international positions to mobilize support for reconstructing Gaza under the Arab reconstruction plan.
Al Yamahi called on all countries and relevant international institutions to actively participate in the Reconstruction Conference, scheduled to be held in Egypt in November, to help rebuild what the occupation destroyed. He also urged the continuation of efforts to hold the occupying power accountable for committing genocide and ethnic cleansing before the relevant international courts.
He renewed his call to establish an international parliamentary working group to support efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and mobilize international support for reconstruction. Al Yamahi also commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its wise leadership for sponsoring the Two-State Solution Conference, which paved the way for growing international recognition of the State of Palestine.
Regarding Sudan, Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament's full support for all efforts aimed at ending the crisis there, strongly condemning the grave violations and horrific crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians, particularly in El-Fasher, and calling for an immediate end to the massacres and accountability for the perpetrators.
On Yemen, he reiterated the Parliament's support for Arab and international efforts to reach a comprehensive solution based on internationally agreed references namely, the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Concerning Syria, Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament's full support for the Syrian people's right to security and stability, calling for efforts to help Syria overcome the current stage successfully while preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and restoring its active role within the Arab sphere.
On Libya, he reaffirmed the Parliament's steadfast stance in supporting the Libyan people and backing their efforts to complete constitutional requirements and hold parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible to fulfill their aspirations for a unified, secure, and stable state.
Regarding Lebanon, Al Yamahi once again condemned Israel's continued aggression and repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty, warning of their grave impact on regional security and stability. He urged the international community to take a decisive stance to stop these attacks and compel Israel to respect international legitimacy and cease its aggressive policies.
On the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament's full support for Egypt in defending its water security, stressing that it is an integral part of Arab national security.
He voiced full backing for Egypt's measures and policies to protect its historical rights to Nile waters, and called on the international community to support a fair and responsible negotiation process that ensures the interests of both Egypt and Sudan in this vital river.
