The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) declared a Red Alert starting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday for several areas of the country due to increased rainfall, overflowing rivers, and landslides that have affected several communities. The measure covers the southern districts of Soná and La Palma (Veraguas), the districts of Tonosí and Mariato (Los Santos), as well as Barú, Renacimiento and Tierras Altas (Chiriquí), according to the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN).

In addition, a yellow alert was declared in the Ngäbe Buglé region following the death of two girls, ages 5 and 8, who were swept away by a head of water caused by a swollen river.
