Arab League Chief: Return Of War In Lebanon Unlikely

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abu al-Gheit said on Tuesday resuming war in Lebanon is "highly unlikely," in light of dialogue with the United States, which presses the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the five parts it occupied.
Abu al-Gheit made the press remarks after meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
The League's chief noted that he expressed his vision regarding the US move to push ahead the peace process in the Middle East.
He indicated that the US is clearly determined to control matters and not to repeat what happened by the Israeli occupation in terms of dealing with the Palestinian cause over the past two years.
Matters are now better, and there are US-Egyptian efforts to help Lebanon get out of its current crisis, Abu al-Gheit noted.
The US uses its potential, means and influence, and the US President is very clear concerning establishing stability and peace, and halting fighting, he pointed out. (end)
