Kremlin Warns EU Decisions Threaten Bloc's Future, Blames Kyiv Talks Halt

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The Kremlin warned Tuesday that the European Union's recent decisions could have far-reaching negative effects on its member states, holding Kyiv responsible for halting negotiations on the Ukraine conflict.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow had received no response from Ukraine to its draft documents and proposals related to working groups, stressing that EU actions, including those concerning Russian assets, would seriously undermine the bloc's stability.
Commenting on statements by former Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that Ukraine had the right to strike Russian-linked targets anywhere in Europe, Peskov said such words should be heard first in Brussels and other European capitals.
He warned that any rational person in Europe would avoid alliances with countries that justify or tolerate terrorism, describing such positions as dangerous and destabilizing for the region.
Peskov said EU states seemed prepared to take reckless measures, including confiscating Russian assets and fast-tracking Ukraine's accession, moves he said could trigger internal unrest within the bloc.
He noted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's efforts to strengthen cooperation with Czech and Slovak leaders, adding that some EU states recognize the risks of policies that might disrupt the union's cohesion.
Commenting on Orban's upcoming visit to the United States to discuss Russian oil sanctions with former President Donald Trump, Peskov said all countries seek reliable energy at the best prices, and Russian supplies remain globally competitive.
He added that Russia maintains broad trade and economic cooperation with India and China, reflecting strong global interest in Russian energy resources.
Earlier Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that France, under President Emmanuel Macron's orders, is preparing to deploy about 2,000 soldiers and officers to Ukraine to support Kyiv, reportedly from the French Foreign Legion and stationed near the Polish-Ukrainian border under combat coordination.
The intelligence service said Macron sought a military role in Ukraine after failing to resolve France's internal crises, while the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that any NATO troop deployment in Ukraine would be unacceptable and risk sharp escalation. (end)
