Gaza Tribunal Declares Israel's Actions as Genocide

(MENAFN) The Gaza Tribunal, in its conclusive statement issued on Sunday in Istanbul, accused Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. It urged the international community to take immediate action to prevent further atrocities.

The Tribunal's findings came after four days of public hearings, where international legal experts, witnesses, and specialists provided evidence and testimonies detailing what they called systematic crimes against the Palestinian people.

Christine Chinkin, who presided over the Jury of Conscience, read the Tribunal's findings. The statement emphasized that while the Jury does not possess the formal authority of nation-states, it believes that when legal mechanisms are ignored by those in power, moral judgment must prevail.

The Tribunal expressed that it serves as a civil society response to the ongoing lack of accountability for Israel’s alleged acts of genocide in Gaza, highlighting the importance of naming and documenting genocide to prevent further violence.

"We believe that genocide must be named and documented and that impunity feeds continuing violence throughout the globe,” the Tribunal declared.

The members of the Tribunal made it clear that the situation in Gaza is a matter of global concern, stating, “Genocide in Gaza is the concern of all humanity. When states are silent civil society can and must speak out.”

They emphasized that the Tribunal's findings constitute a crucial record of evidence against Israel, portraying it as a “valuable archive” of the genocide against the Palestinian people.

The Tribunal expressed solidarity with global movements protesting Israel’s actions, including “the rallies, the marches, the encampments, the flotillas, the strikes and other actions that protest the genocide and states’ unwillingness to hold Israel to account.”

The statement was a powerful call for the world to take a stand against what the Tribunal deems as genocide, underscoring the need for the international community to act decisively in addressing the crisis in Gaza.
