Panama On Alert: Hurricane Melissa Strengthens In The Caribbean -

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported on the afternoon of Saturday, October 25, that it remains under constant monitoring from the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), following the announcement that Tropical Storm Melissa had become a Category 1 hurricane, according to reports from the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC).
According to the NHC, Melissa could rapidly gain intensity in the coming hours, becoming a dangerous storm that will bring heavy rains and gusty winds to the islands of Jamaica and Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic).
Although Panama is not directly in the hurricane's path, Sinaproc stated that the country remains vigilant for possible indirect effects, such as increased rainfall, wind gusts, and waves on the Caribbean side of Panama.
Given this scenario, Sinaproc reiterated its call to the public to stay informed through the institution's official channels and to avoid disseminating unverified information.
“COEN staff continues to constantly monitor this phenomenon and weather conditions throughout the country,” the agency emphasized.
