Online Identity Theft Emerging Form Of Online Safety Violation In Qatar: Senior Consultant
Doha, Qatar: Engineer Abdul Rahman Al Yafei, senior engineering consultant, said that a new emerging trend of online identity theft was among the leading online safety violations in the State of Qatar.
Al Yafei, during a Qatar TV interview, added that the most cases of online safety violations reported in Qatar were ones related to online financial scams and cyberbullying.
The senior consultant advised individuals be more vigilant when interacting with social media, and not to be quick to publishing false information.
He also advised people who fall victims to these violations to immediately report them to the specialised authorities in order for them to be dealt with accordingly.
Engineer Abdul Rahman Al Yafei also discussed Law No. (11) of 2025 that amends Article (8) of the original law issued in 2014, adding a new penalty of imprisonment for a period of one year and a fine not exceeding QR100,000 for violating individuals' privacy, circulating or publishing images, video, or taking pictures of individuals without their consent and disseminating them by any digital means.
He added that this amendment came as a result of developments in the field of social media and the increasing use of social media by many people, as well as the increasing importance of social media in our modern lives.
