OpenAI Launches AI-Powered Web Browser
(MENAFN) OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has introduced a new artificial intelligence-driven web browser, designed to rival major competitors such as Google, which is behind the world’s most widely used browser, Chrome.
Named ChatGPT Atlas, this innovative browser eliminates the traditional address bar that is commonly found in most search browsers. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, explained that the browser was "built around ChatGPT," and it became available to users on Apple's macOS operating system on Tuesday.
The launch of Atlas is a strategic move for OpenAI as it explores novel ways to profit from its significant investment in artificial intelligence and capitalize on the growing number of users engaging with its platform.
As part of this expansion, OpenAI revealed that Atlas would also feature a paid agent mode, which autonomously performs searches on behalf of users of the popular ChatGPT chatbot.
The agent mode will be accessible exclusively to subscribers of ChatGPT's paid services. This functionality leverages the chatbot to "improve its speed and usefulness by working with your browsing context."
Additionally, OpenAI has rolled out a variety of initiatives aimed at drawing more users to its online offerings, including collaborations with e-commerce platforms such as Etsy and Shopify, as well as travel booking services like Expedia and Booking.com.
