Vance, PM of Israel hold talks on Gaza truce
(MENAFN) US Vice President JD Vance met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday to discuss the progress and implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
As stated by reports from the Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, received Vance and his spouse, Usha, at the premier’s office in Jerusalem. Specific details of the discussions were not disclosed.
Vance is also expected to meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog after his talks with Netanyahu, according to local sources.
The vice president arrived in Israel on Tuesday for a three-day visit aimed at overseeing the truce that went into effect on October 10 in Gaza and consulting senior Israeli officials on the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
The initial phase of the plan facilitated the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. It further envisions the reconstruction of Gaza and the creation of a new governing structure independent of Hamas.
Since October 2023, the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 68,200 deaths and more than 170,300 injuries, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
