(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Oct. 20 (Petra) – Under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, and in the presence of Thomas Weikert, President of the German Olympic Committee, the closing ceremony of the Jordanian-German Handball Project was held Monday, marking the conclusion of a four-year initiative that significantly advanced the sport in the Kingdom.
The project, an initiative of the German Olympic Committee supported by the German Foreign Ministry, was built around four main objectives that strengthened and expanded the presence of handball in Jordan.
A key goal was to broaden the sport's grassroots base through the talent development program, now operating across 18 training centers nationwide under the supervision of German handball expert Wolfgang Lovack. The program has helped nurture young players' fundamental skills and supplied promising talent to the national teams.
The project also focused on enhancing the capabilities of male and female coaches through a series of training courses at various levels, which increased the number of qualified technical staff and improved the overall quality of coaching in clubs, training centers, and national teams.
Additionally, the initiative promoted women's participation in handball, both as players and coaches, by providing an inclusive and supportive environment and equal opportunities, contributing to higher female representation in the sport. It also sought to integrate refugees into Jordanian society through handball, offering safe spaces for social and athletic engagement.
At the closing ceremony, held at Princess Sumaya Hall, attendees watched young athletes showcase their technical skills, reflecting the remarkable progress achieved over the past four years.
