Türkiye Mediates Ceasefire Deal Between Pakistan, Afghanistan

(MENAFN) The Turkish intelligence agency played a central role in mediating discussions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which led to both nations agreeing on an "immediate ceasefire," according to Turkish security sources on Sunday.

These talks took place in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with Türkiye and Qatar both offering significant backing for the process.

According to the sources, the meetings in Doha were also attended by Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and focused on the recent clashes at the shared border of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The deliberations included the participation of the heads of both countries' intelligence agencies and their defense ministers.

The primary aim of the discussions was to "extend the current ceasefire and resolve recent border clashes," as stated by the sources. High-level consultations persisted well into the evening, with updates regularly provided to international leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Plans have been set in motion for follow-up meetings in the coming days, aimed at ensuring the ceasefire continues in a reliable and lasting way.

After 14 hours of continuous dialogue, the parties agreed that the inaugural session of the technical committee—tasked with examining the specifics of the ceasefire—will take place in Istanbul.
