India, Sri Lanka Explore Deepening Cooperation In Areas Of Mutual Interest


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday discussed with Sri Lankan counterpart Harini Amarasuriya ways of strengthening cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest.
A statement from the Indian Prime Minister's Office said that Modi discussed with his Sri Lankan counterpart deepening cooperation in a number of areas, including education, technology, innovation development cooperation and welfare of fishermen.
Modi told the Sri Lankan prime minister that her visit would impart fresh momentum to the historic and multi-faceted India-Sri Lanka ties. He also recalled his visit to Sri Lanka in April during which he held discussions with President Anura Kumara Disanayaka covering all areas of cooperation.
"Highlighting the special ties between India and Sri Lanka, Prime Minister reaffirmed India's commitment to work together in the shared development journey of the two countries," the statement said.
On her arrival yesterday, the Sri Lankan premier had met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and discussed India's continued support to Sri Lanka and strengthening cooperation in education and capacity building. (end)
