The ongoing dispute between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan has become a major source of concern for Afghan traders, as delays in cross-border trade have led to significant financial losses.

Trucks loaded with perishable goods, including fruits and vegetables, remain stranded while awaiting entry into Pakistan. As a result, the produce is rotting, forcing Afghan traders to sell their goods at throwaway prices in local markets to minimize losses.

Reports indicate that tons of grapes have already spoiled, dealing a severe financial blow to exporters and farmers. The worsening situation has prompted growing calls within Afghanistan for the restoration of trade and improved relations with Pakistan.

The crisis deepened after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) ordered a suspension of Afghan transit trade transportation from Karachi ports earlier this week.

Following the directive, long queues of containers formed at the ports, with hundreds of loaded vehicles now stuck on routes leading to Quetta and Peshawar.

Sources said that truck drivers continue to wait for the border reopening, as uncertainty prevails over the resumption of cross-border trade.
