Six Palestinians get killed by IDF’s shooting in Gaza

(MENAFN) Israeli forces fired on Palestinians in northern Gaza on Tuesday after reports of individuals approaching troops near the ceasefire boundary, resulting in at least six deaths, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli military stated that several "suspects" crossed the "yellow line," which separates Israeli-controlled areas under the ceasefire, and continued advancing toward troops despite attempts to disperse them. "Attempts were made to distance the suspects. The suspects did not comply and continued approaching the troops, who opened fire to remove the threat," the military said.

Gaza health officials confirmed that six Palestinians were killed in two incidents, including five in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood of Gaza City. Eyewitnesses reported that the group had been inspecting their homes when an Israeli drone fired a missile.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem condemned the killings as "a violation of the ceasefire agreement," calling on "the various parties to monitor the occupation's behavior and not allow it to evade its commitments before the mediators regarding ending the war."

The ceasefire, implemented on Friday, followed intensive negotiations in Egypt and included a prisoner exchange, reopening of border crossings, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Under the deal, Israeli forces agreed to halt fighting and partially withdraw, while Hamas would release all remaining detainees in exchange for Israel freeing over 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Gaza Civil Defense reported that more than 250 bodies have been recovered since the ceasefire, with efforts hampered by a "significant shortage" of heavy equipment. Thousands are still believed trapped under debris left by more than two years of bombardment, with unexploded ordnance continuing to pose a danger.

The conflict has devastated Gaza, causing famine and destruction, with at least 67,869 people killed, according to Gaza health authorities.
