Alleged carbon monoxide poisoning ends two lives in Mongolia

(MENAFN) Authorities in Mongolia report that two people have died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in the capital, Ulan Bator, since the start of October.

The victims were discovered in a house and a traditional ger, a round-shaped dwelling, located in slum areas on the outskirts of the city. Both are believed to have succumbed during sleep at night.

A preliminary investigation indicates that smoke leaking from stove chimneys may have caused the fatalities.

Mongolia, the world’s most sparsely populated nation, faces significant housing challenges, particularly in Ulan Bator, which houses over half of the country’s 3.5 million residents. More than half of the city’s population lives in ger districts, where access to running water, central heating, and sewer systems is lacking.
