Amman, Oct. 14 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud presented Jordan's water vision at the United Nations Conference on Water 2026 during his participation in the 8th Cairo Water Week's ministerial-level session entitled "The Arab Vision in Partnership with the United Nations Water Investment Conference 2026."
According to a ministry statement on Tuesday, Abu Saud reviewed Jordan's resilience in addressing global water challenges, noting that 98 participants were working toward expanding access to high-quality water services, while 68 participants were focused on improving sanitation services.
He highlighted that Jordan's water sector has made major strides through vital projects aimed at preserving limited water resources and ensuring their availability for daily use and economic growth, particularly in the agricultural sector. He added that Jordan continues to develop new strategies and solutions to address the impacts of climate change and to promote the adoption of the water footprint approach in agricultural production across the Arab region as an essential tool for rationalizing water consumption.
Abu Al-Saud underscored that regional cooperation has evolved through more accurate water accounting and efficient trade mechanisms that encourage the exchange of low-water-footprint products. He noted that adapting to climate change requires reliable data, precise planning, and enhanced private sector involvement in implementing integrated water management projects, particularly in areas facing resource scarcity.
He pointed out that the ongoing Jordan water project will provide diversified drinking water sources and agricultural water, increasing the country's capacity by an estimated 200–250 million cubic meters. Additional long-term projects with a total investment of JD 2.4 billion are also under implementation.
