Ukraine, UK Forge Deeper Defense Collaboration

(MENAFN) Ukraine and the United Kingdom have officially agreed to expand their defense collaboration through the LYRA program, which centers on the joint development and deployment of cutting-edge battlefield technologies, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced Saturday.

The statement of intent was signed during the International Defense Industry Forum DFNC3 held in Kyiv, marking a formal commitment between the UK Secretary of State for Defense and Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.

The LYRA initiative aims to leverage the combined defense-industrial and scientific strengths of both countries to accelerate battlefield technology projects, boosting the operational capabilities of their armed forces.

“The goal of LYRA is to strengthen the defence capabilities of both countries by combining the Ukrainian and British defence-industrial and scientific potential,” Shmyhal stated, emphasizing that the partnership will drive the modernization and production of critical weapons systems.

In addition to LYRA, Ukraine and the UK also finalized an agreement for collaborative artillery manufacturing.

Shmyhal expressed his appreciation for the UK’s ongoing military and technological support, noting: “Together, we are strengthening the security of all of Europe.”
