Russia Warns U.S. of Grave Risks Over Missile Transfer to Ukraine

(MENAFN) The Kremlin issued a stark warning Monday over the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov cautioning that such a move “could end badly,” emphasizing that operating the advanced weapons would require American specialists.

“This point was also made by Dmitry Medvedev,” Peskov told reporters, referencing the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, and reinforcing Moscow’s stance that deploying complex systems like the Tomahawk implies direct US involvement.

“Any expert here, even the slightest bit, understands this perfectly well and is aware of it,” he added, according to a Russian state-run news agency.

Earlier, Medvedev warned that supplying Tomahawks to Kyiv could carry grave risks for all parties involved. He asserted that distinguishing between conventional and nuclear-capable variants of the missile mid-flight is virtually impossible, claiming that in practice, such weapons “would be launched by the United States rather than by Kyiv.”

Peskov’s remarks echo long-standing Russian concerns about the transfer of high-precision Western weaponry to Ukraine — concerns that Moscow argues bring NATO closer to direct confrontation.

Tomahawk missiles, known for their long-range and high-precision strike capabilities, have been at the center of escalating rhetoric. Russian officials argue such transfers risk provoking a broader conflict, while Western governments maintain that arms deliveries are essential for Ukraine’s self-defense.
