Love, Tribute, Joy: Voices From The Philly LGBTQ+ Arts Scene Featuring Creative Repute Founder Nile Livingston
This two-hour in-person event will highlight the power of storytelling, collaboration, and community through art. Moderated by Conrad Benner, the panel will feature Chris Bartlett, Rami George, Nile Livingston, and Chelsey Luster, four Philadelphia-based artists and influencers whose work uplifts LGBTQ+ narratives in public spaces.
About Nile Livingston and Their Work: As the Founder and CEO of Creative Repute, Inc., an award-winning graphic design and web development agency based in Philadelphia, Nile Livingston has long used art as a form of storytelling and social documentation. Their visual practice explores identity, community, and the shared humanity that binds us across difference.
Livingston’s mural “Finally on 13th”, installed in Philadelphia’s “Gayborhood” in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia, honors the trailblazers of the city’s historic Ballroom scene, including figures such as Michael Gaston, Tina Cartier, and Jacen Bowman, whose creativity and resilience shaped a thriving cultural movement born from resistance and joy.
“This mural is our attempt at giving legendary Philadelphia Ballroom figures their flowers,” Livingston said. “It’s about recognizing the power of chosen family and the spaces our community built to affirm our full, complex selves.”
Livingston’s research-driven process involved deep collaboration with Ballroom community members and archival contributions from local legends, creating a work that both celebrates and preserves queer Black Philadelphia history. The mural was followed by a dedication event and mock ball at the William Way Community Center, underscoring the deep ties between art, place, and belonging.
Beyond their individual practice, Livingston’s firm Creative Repute has contributed to landmark LGBTQ+ projects, including the William Way Community Center Capital Campaign, designing inclusive digital and print materials that helped raise funds for the Center’s ambitious expansion.
In 2021, Livingston also co-created “Finding Our Happy”, a wheatpaste mural on the side of Giovanni’s Room, alongside artists Nicole Nikolich, Marisa Velázquez-Rivas, and Conrad Benner, celebrating queer stories of resilience and joy.
About the Event: Love, Tribute, Joy: Voices from the Philly LGBTQ+ Arts Scene offers an evening of dialogue and inspiration that honors Philadelphia’s queer artists who are creating visibility, connection, and joy through public art. Together, they will explore the importance of telling one’s own story, preserving community memory, and making space for future generations of LGBTQ+ creators.
“Coming out and showing up as ourselves is one of the most powerful ways to build community,” said Livingston. “Our stories deserve to be seen and remembered.”
