(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Thursday welcomed the announcement by the President of the United States regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, describing it as "a big step towards lasting peace for both Israelis and Palestinians".
In a post on X, he expressed hope that all parties would uphold the agreement "so the suffering of all civilians finally ends."
The WHO chief affirmed that the organization stands ready "to scale up its work to meet the dire health needs of patients across Gaza and to support the rehabilitation of the destroyed health system." (end)
