New steps get established by Germany to oppose suspected drone chip

(MENAFN) The German government on Wednesday approved draft legislation aimed at strengthening defenses against suspected drone threats. The bill, which updates the Federal Police Act, will establish a dedicated drone defense center and empower federal police to intercept and neutralize unauthorized drones.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told a Berlin press conference that the new powers will allow federal authorities to use a range of technical measures, including electromagnetic pulses, signal jamming, GPS interference, and physical interventions, such as intercepting or shooting down drones.

The federal police will focus on safeguarding airports, train stations, and federal government institutions while also supporting local police through administrative assistance. A specialized drone defense unit will be created within the federal police, capable of nationwide deployment at the request of federal states.

“We will equip the federal police with state-of-the-art technology to combat unauthorized drones and establish a joint drone defense center,” Dobrindt said, emphasizing the growing need to address the rising threat from unidentified aerial devices.
