Dozens Of Prisoners Freed From Herat Prison

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): As many as 160 prisoners, including women and children, have been released from the central prison in western Herat province in compliance with a decree from the Islamic Emirate's leadership, local officials said on Wednesday.

Mullah Sharafuddin Mukhles, Director General of Herat Provincial Prison, said that according to the leadership decree, 160 prisoners, including children and women, were released from the central prison.

He added that the released prisoners included those covered by the Islamic Emirate leadership's amnesty decree, and a reduction in sentences has also been considered for 162 other individuals.

He said that this decree was issued on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Islamic Emirate's rule.

Meanwhile, some of the released prisoners, expressing their happiness, said that during their imprisonment, they received religious, vocational and ethical education and pledged to lead a healthy and lawful life from now on.

Officials of Herat Prison say that currently more than three thousand prisoners accused of various crimes are being held at this prison, and they are provided with opportunities to learn religious sciences, modern sciences, and various vocational skills.
