(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Oct. 8 (Petra) -- Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation, smart meters, data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, areas that will advance technological innovation in Jordan's energy sector.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the university said the agreement reflects its ongoing efforts to establish effective partnerships with institutions in the industrial and service sectors.
The memorandum was signed by the PSUT President Wijdan Abu Haija and JEPCO General Manager Hassan Abdullah, in the presence of academics and experts from both sides.
The agreement seeks to expand cooperation in several key areas, including offering training opportunities for university students in development and technology fields to align educational outcomes with labor market needs, particularly in the electricity sector. It also aims to utilize the university's expertise to develop digital systems and applications within JEPCO's operations and explore the use of smart meters to enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption through artificial intelligence technologies.
The memorandum further provides for the exchange of expertise, research, and reports, and the organization of specialized workshops, conferences, and lectures to identify opportunities for applied research projects that would enhance human resource capacity on both sides.
Abu Haija underlined that the PSUT, guided by its vision of leadership in education, scientific research, and innovation, is committed to building strategic partnerships with leading national institutions to link academic education with practical application and support Jordan's digital transformation.
For his part, Abdullah praised the partnership, highlighting the PSUT's academic excellence and the competence of its students and faculty. He noted that the cooperation represents a model for bridging the academic and industrial sectors and stressed JEPCO's interest in attracting graduates in engineering and technology fields and supporting student graduation projects within the company's laboratories.
The two parties agreed to form joint working groups to follow up on implementing the memorandum, identify research and development opportunities, and initiate joint projects.
