Internet Connectivity For Families In Southern Afghanistan Severely Limited

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Internet connectivity for families in southern Afghanistan has been severely restricted, with Wi-Fi and fiber-optic services cut for most households, leaving only key institutions connected.
Internet services in parts of southern Afghanistan have been severely restricted, with residents in Kandahar and Helmand reporting widespread disruptions to fiber-optic and Wi-Fi connections, several local sources said on Wednesday.

According to residents, access has been cut for most households, leaving only key government departments, banks, and currency exchange offices connected. The outage has sparked concern among citizens and businesses over growing censorship and communication barriers under Taliban rule.

In Helmand, users reported a significant slowdown in Wi-Fi services, with multiple outages occurring over the past 24 hours.“The internet keeps going off and coming back every few hours,” one resident said.“We can barely send messages or access basic services.”

The Taliban have previously imposed nationwide internet shutdowns, including a two-day blackout last month that halted mobile and communication networks across the country. Officials have yet to provide any explanation for the most recent disruptions in the southern provinces.

Digital rights advocates and Afghan journalists condemned the latest restrictions, warning that they further limit freedom of expression and deepen the country's isolation. International watchdogs have urged the Taliban to restore full access and ensure the protection of digital rights.

Experts say the growing frequency of network shutdowns reflects the Taliban's increasing concern over online dissent and their efforts to suppress criticism. For many Afghans, particularly students, entrepreneurs, and activists, the loss of connectivity underscores how life under the Taliban remains tightly monitored and restricted.
