Qatari Premier Plans Joining Gaza Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

(MENAFN) Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman is scheduled to travel to Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday to participate in ceasefire discussions between Hamas and Israel concerning Gaza.

The prime minister will “join the ongoing negotiations between the concerned parties regarding Gaza, amid intensified regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire,” stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari on the US social media platform X on Tuesday.

His involvement in the dialogue “comes at a critical stage of the talks, reaffirming the determination of the mediators to reach an agreement that would bring an end to the catastrophic war in the Gaza Strip,” added Ansari.

On Tuesday, Hamas and Israel conducted the second day of indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, seeking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange under the framework of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza initiative.

On September 29, Trump revealed a 20-point plan that proposes the release of all Israeli captives in return for Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, Hamas’s disarmament, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

Hamas has agreed to the proposal in principle.

Since October 2023, the Israeli military has killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians, primarily women and children, in Gaza.

The ongoing airstrikes have made the territory almost unlivable, causing widespread displacement, hunger, and the spread of disease.
