Kremlin Sees Trump’s Commitment to Peace Talks

(MENAFN) The Kremlin expressed on Tuesday that it believes US President Donald Trump still possesses the “political will” to address the situation in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters during a press conference that they “continue to assume that President Trump retains the political will to facilitate the transition of the Ukrainian settlement to the channel of peaceful and political negotiations.”

Peskov noted that the diplomatic communication between Russia and the United States remains “subdued,” which he attributed to the “great inertia” existing in the relationship between the two nations.

Despite this, he indicated that interactions at the highest levels of leadership show a “slightly different” dynamic.

He elaborated that Trump’s personal relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is “more lively,” suggesting a warmer rapport between the two leaders.

When asked about the possibility of a phone call between Trump and Putin later in the day, coinciding with Putin’s 73rd birthday, Peskov refrained from providing details.

“I won't announce anything. We'll let you know once we've made the contacts,” he commented.

Additionally, Peskov described a recent phone conversation between Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as “very important.”

This was the first discussion between the two leaders since December of the previous year.
