
Egypt's Cabinet Approves New Universities, Church Legalisations
In its weekly meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the cabinet approved a presidential decree to establish the“Capital International Education Foundation” in the New Administrative Capital. The foundation will host branches of two Scottish universities: Queen Margaret University and Edinburgh Napier University.
The branch of Queen Margaret University will offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business administration, digital marketing, psychology, education, film and media, physiotherapy, and nutrition. Edinburgh Napier University's branch will offer programmes in computer science, engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and graphic design, among others.
The cabinet also approved a presidential decree to establish a new private university,“Mediterranean University in Alexandria,” which will include faculties of medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, nursing, business administration, and computer science.
In other decisions, the cabinet approved the recommendations of a committee to legalise the status of 160 churches and their affiliated buildings. This brings the total number of churches and buildings that have had their status regularised since the committee began its work to 3,613.
The ministers also approved a new draft law on competition and the prevention of monopolistic practices and referred it to parliament.
Additionally, the cabinet approved a presidential decree to reclassify a 97.7-feddan plot of land in East Owaynat, New Valley governorate, returning it to state ownership, as it overlaps with the approved urban area of a local village. It also approved the issuance of licenses for the construction of an Azharite institutes complex in Cairo.
