I am originally from the Greater Portland area of Maine. I am family physician and epidemiologist and have spent my career teaching, doing clinical work, and doing research. After finishing my clinical training, my wife and I worked for 3 years in a hospital in rural Zimbabwe, where I became interested in public health. Afterward, I got my PhD in epidemiology from UNC-Chapel Hill and worked for the CDC in their Epidemic Intelligence Service. Subsequently, I taught Family Medicine at Eastern Maine Medical Center and taught epidemioloy at Husson College and U of Maine. I recently returned from 5 years teaching epidemiology, running the medical school teaching clinic, and doing research at the Catholic University of Mozambique in Beira.
