(MENAFN- Khaama Press) NATO is set to expand its Baltic mission, deploying an air-defense warship and surveillance systems amid escalating drone threats and regional tensions.
NATO has announced an expansion of its Baltic Sea mission with the deployment of an air-defense warship and advanced surveillance equipment. The move is aimed at strengthening regional security as tensions rise across Eastern Europe.

According to a Reuters report on Saturday, September 27, drones were spotted multiple times this week near airports and critical infrastructure in Europe. These incursions have heightened concerns over potential vulnerabilities in the region.

NATO officials confirmed that the new deployment will include intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms, alongside at least one air-defense warship, to reinforce the“Baltic Guardian” mission.

The decision comes against the backdrop of increasing strain along Europe's eastern borders. Member states have voiced alarm over repeated drone activity and potential risks posed by Russian influence in the area.

In response to similar threats, NATO has also launched the“Eastern Guardian” mission, designed to bolster defenses in Poland and other eastern flank members following reports of Russian drones entering Polish airspace.

Alliance leaders have warned that any violation of NATO territory will be met with“all necessary military and non-military measures.” Officials emphasized that the alliance remains united in defending its members against external threats.

Russia, however, has rejected accusations of involvement, denying any plans to target European infrastructure and dismissing Western claims as unfounded.
