Starbucks Secures Trademark Rights in Russia

(MENAFN) Starbucks has officially registered its trademark with Russia’s intellectual property authority, Rospatent, enabling the company to once again market food and drink items bearing its recognizable logo.

The American coffee giant, which originally launched operations in Russia in 2007, withdrew from the country in 2022 in response to Western sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine.

The company, headquartered in Seattle, completed the trademark registration on October 1.

As per data from the Rusprofile business directory, these exclusive rights will remain in force until May 2034.

The newly registered trademark encompasses an extensive variety of services, including dining establishments, cafes, self-service eateries, snack venues, establishments specializing in coffee and tea, teahouses, takeaway outlets, bars, catering services, and the contractual preparation and distribution of food and beverages. It also includes provisions for loyalty schemes that reward frequent patrons.

Following its exit from Russia, Starbucks’ local operations were rebranded as ‘Stars Coffee’ in 2022.

This transformation came after artist Timur Yunusov (also known as Timati) and businessman Anton Pinsky took over the company’s local assets.

Their acquisition included leases for all 130 storefronts and employment agreements for 2,000 workers.

The iconic mermaid emblem was replaced by the image of a woman wearing a traditional Russian kokoshnik.

The recent trademark move signals a deliberate initiative by Starbucks to uphold its brand identity and safeguard its intellectual property rights within the Russian marketplace.
