Search Operations Completed In Odesa Storm: 10 Dead, 380 Rescued


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was reported on Telegram by Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine - Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba, according to Ukrinform.

“Rescuers have completed their search operations. Ten people died as a result of the bad weather. At the same time, more than 380 residents were rescued,” Kuleba said.

He specified that emergency restoration work is ongoing. Water has already been pumped out of more than 60 facilities, and the infrastructure has been prepared for further restoration. About 30 more remain in operation. The largest amount of water accumulated in underground parking lots, from which more than 15,000 cubic meters have already been pumped out.

In addition, 40 of the 42 flooded shelters have already been cleared.

According to Kuleba, commissions are beginning work in the city to inspect housing for further compensation, as well as a commission to investigate the causes and circumstances of the tragedy.

The hotline of the single center for citizens' appeals 15-35 is operational. Another line, 15-01, has been added. Yesterday and today, more than 500 reports have already been received by the hotlines and emergency services.

Due to the natural disaster and as a result of Russian shelling overnight, 46,000 subscribers in Odesa are currently without electricity. Energy workers and rescue teams are continuing to work in extremely difficult conditions to restore power as quickly as possible. Water and gas supplies in the city and region are operating normally.

161 emergency centers are being prepared, where people will be able to recharge their devices and warm up.

As reported by Ukrinform, 10 people died in Odesa as a result of the storm, and 384 apartment buildings and 286 private houses were flooded.

Heavy rains in Odesa on September 30 were caused by a local cyclone over the Black Sea. The cyclone's movement to the north and east was blocked by an anticyclone, which led to an intensification of atmospheric fronts.
