Gandhi Jayanti 2025: PM, Prez Pay Tributes Modi Says 'Will Keep Following His Path In Quest To Build A Viksit Bharat'


(MENAFN- Live Mint) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, October 2, paid homage to the“extraordinary life of beloved Bapu”, marking the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

“Gandhi Jayanti is about paying homage to the extraordinary life of beloved Bapu, whose ideals transformed the course of human history. He demonstrated how courage and simplicity could become instruments of great change,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X.

The Prime Minister added that he would follow Mahatma Gandhi's path to build a Viksit Bharat.

“He believed in the power of service and compassion as essential means of empowering people. We will keep following his path in our quest to build a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister arrived at Raj Ghat in New Delhi to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, whose birth anniversary is being celebrated today.

President Murmu pays tribute to Gandhi

Along with PM Modi, President Murmu also reached Raj Ghat on Thursday morning to pay tributes to the 'Father of the Nation'.

She also paid homage to Gandhi on X, writing,“Gandhiji has given the message of peace, tolerance, and truth, which is an inspiration for the entire humanity. He dedicated his life to eradicating untouchability, illiteracy, addiction, and other social evils. With unwavering determination, he provided strength and support to the weaker sections of society.”

“Throughout his life, he upheld an unwavering belief in morality and ethics, inspiring the people to follow that path. He gave the message of self-reliance through the Charkha, aiming to build a self-reliant, self-sufficient, and educated India. He always promoted the dignity of labour through his conduct and teachings. His life values remain relevant even today and will continue to guide us in the future," the President further said, adding that the nation must follow“the path of truth and non-violence ... and realize Gandhi ji's dream by building a cleaner, more capable, fully empowered, and prosperous India.”

The entire country celebrates October 2 as Gandhi Jayanti, to mark the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

PM Modi, Prez Murmu remember Lal Bahadur Shastri

PM Modi and President Murmu also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary falls on October 2 as well.

“Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was an extraordinary statesman whose integrity, humility and determination strengthened India, including during challenging times. He personified exemplary leadership, strength and decisive action. His clarion call of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' ignited a spirit of patriotism among our people. He continues to motivate us in the endeavour of building a strong and self-reliant India,” he wrote in an X post.

President Murmu also paid tribute to Shastri.

The President visited Vijay Ghat in New Delhi and laid wreaths to commemorate the former Prime Minister.
