Team India kick-started their quest for the maiden Women's ODI World Cup triumph with a convincing 59-run win over Sri Lanka in the tournament opener at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, September 30.

After posting a total of 269/8, thanks to vital contributions from Pratika Rawal (37), Harleen Deol (48), Deepti Sharma (53), Amanjot Kaur (57), and Sneh Rana (28), the Women in Blue successfully defend it as the bowlers bundled out Sri Lanka for 211 in 45.4 overs. The World Cup opener was interrupted by rain during India's batting, and the overs were revised to 47 per side. India's bowling attack was led by Deepti Sharma as she registered figures of 3/54 at an economy rate of 5.4 in 10 overs. Sneh Rana (2/32) and Shree Charani (2/37) picked two wickets, while Pratika Rawal and Kranti Goud took a wicket each.

For Sri Lanka, skipper Chamari Athapaththu was the top scorer with a knock of 43 off 47 balls, while Nilakshi de Silva and Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 35 and 29, respectively.
