Brazil Invests In AI For Public Services

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) Brasília – Representatives from Brazil's Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services and the Telecommunications Research and Development Center (CPQD) are signing a partnership agreement on Tuesday (30) to develop solutions and tools that enable the use of artificial intelligence in the management and delivery of public services.

The agreement provides for an investment of BRL 390 million (USD 73 million) over the next four years. Funded by the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and managed by the Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (FINEP), the resources will cover the creation of generative AI platforms aimed at optimizing public services, integrating available information, and facilitating interactions between citizens and the public administration.

In practice, the artificial intelligence tools will be used, among other things, to catalog and integrate the large volume of information scattered across different social databases, such as CadÚnico-the federal government registry enabling access to social programs-and public health and education agencies. The ultimate goal is even more ambitious, according to the National Secretary of Digital Government, Rogério Mascarenhas.

“From the beginning, we have aimed for a personalized approach, focused on improving services,” Mascarenhas said when announcing the signing of the partnership agreement, referring to the intention of creating platforms capable of using AI to qualify, protect, and integrate information.“The goal is to provide a government for each individual,” the secretary added, saying that with modern technologies, it is feasible to consider sending personalized messages.

Named Inspire (an acronym for the project's full title in Portuguese, Artificial Intelligence in Public Service with Innovation, Responsibility, and Ethics), the joint initiative is part of the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan, a major program that provides for federal investments of around BRL 23 billion (USD 4 billion) by 2028 in actions promoting the use of AI to improve public services, with a focus on social inclusion.
