US Justice Department files lawsuit Minnesota for immigration sanctuary policies

(MENAFN) The US Justice Department has initiated legal proceedings against Minnesota over its stance on immigration sanctuary practices, according to reports.

The lawsuit targets the state itself along with local authorities in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Hennepin County, as well as Minnesota’s attorney general and the county sheriff. Officials are accused of adopting measures that obstruct federal efforts to enforce immigration laws.

"Minnesota officials are jeopardizing the safety of their own citizens by allowing illegal aliens to circumvent the legal process," said Attorney General Pamela Bondi in a statement.

Bondi further emphasized that the department intends to continue challenging local governments that adopt sanctuary-style policies, asserting they undermine federal authority and complicate law enforcement.
