Amb. Al-Hayen: Palestinian People Have Been Subjected To A Genocide For Nearly Two Years
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
GENEVA, Sept 29 (KUNA) - The State of Kuwait affirmed on Monday that what the Palestinian people have been subjected to for nearly two years in the Gaza Strip is a genocide, said Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen.
In a speech during the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Ambassador Al-Hayen warned that turning a blind eye to the occupation's crimes in Palestine would entrench double standards and undermine the foundations of justice and equality upon which the UN was founded.
Ambassador Al-Hayen praised the momentum generated by the high-level international conference to resolve the Palestinian issue, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, and the recognition of the independent State of Palestine by a large group of friendly countries, calling on other countries to take similar steps.
He also expressed Kuwait's welcome of the database issued by the Human Rights Council on companies involved in supporting illegal settlements, stressing the importance of expanding and updating it to include all complicit parties.
The ambassador affirmed Kuwait's steadfast position in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
