Germany Calls For Firmness In Response To Russia's NATO Violations

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERLIN, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The German government called for firmness and unity in responding to the repeated Russian violations of NATO airspace on Monday.
In a statement, German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stressed before leaving for Warsaw, Poland to participate in the "Weimar Triangle" meetings -- comprising of Germany, France, and Poland -- that the allies will stand united, while at the same time maintain calm and avoid being dragged into escalation.
He added that the alliance countries are "undoubtedly resolute in their preparedness and comprehensive response to any threat."
According to Wadephul, Russia bears responsibility for the recent drone incursions into NATO airspace, and that these incursions are "not accidental" but rather "deliberate attacks." He described these incursions "hybrid attacks whose sole purpose is to test the resolve of the alliance countries.
The Minister's statements came after Poland and Denmark announced that drones had been violated their airspace in recent weeks and held Russia responsible for launching them, although Moscow denies this.
The Weimar Triangle meetings will be attended by the German, French and Polish Foreign Ministers, in addition to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, who will join the consultations later. (end)
