Alex is a Reader in Anthropology at UCL, focusing on primate behaviour and ecology. He has worked in West and East Africa, currently coordinating the Greater Mahale Ecosystem Research & Conservation (GMERC) Project, based in western Tanzania. His specific interests centre on primate vocalisation behaviour and overall primate adaptations to a savanna-woodland environment, and, with Fiona Stewart (LJMU/UCL/GMERC) serves as a scientific advisor and consultant for ongoing conservation activities in the Greater Mahale Ecosystem to prioritise areas for chimpanzee conservation.
