Dr Leah Mwainyekule is the Course Leader for the MA/MSc in Public Relations and a lecturer at the University of Westminster's School of Media and Communication, which she joined in September 2022. Before this, she worked as an Associate Lecturer for the University of East London (UEL) and the University of the Arts London (UAL) at their London College of Communication (LCC).

Prior to joining academia, Dr Mwainyekule worked as a journalist and later as a communications specialist in Tanzania for over 20 years. Her focus was mainly on the development sector.

She has a Master of Arts Degree in International Communication and Development from Swansea University and a PhD in Sociology and Social Anthropology from the University of Hull.

The research areas that Dr Mwainyekule is interested in include Journalism, Public Relations, Social Media Participation, Social Media Activism, Social Media Inclusion, Political Communication, Development Communication, Media Regulation, and Media and Politics in Africa.

She is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of African Media Studies.
