Trump To Sign Order Enforcing Tiktok Divestment In U.S.

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an order enforcing a 2024 law requiring TikTok's U.S. assets be sold, citing Chinese ownership and national security concerns.

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Thursday requiring TikTok's American assets to be sold, in line with a law passed in 2024.

The legislation bans Chinese ownership of the video-sharing app, forcing parent company ByteDance to divest its U.S. operations or face a nationwide ban. Reuters reported that the enforcement order is designed to formalize the law's implementation.

Implementation has been delayed until mid-December to allow TikTok's U.S. business to be separated and transferred to new American investors, according to officials familiar with the process.

Trump has openly acknowledged TikTok's political importance, noting its 170 million U.S. users and pointing to his own 15 million followers on the platform. He has suggested the app contributed to his electoral appeal.

The divestment law was initially advanced by the Biden administration, which raised national security concerns about Chinese access to U.S. user data. ByteDance has repeatedly denied such allegations but remains under intense pressure in Washington.

Analysts say the order underscores both the security concerns shaping U.S.-China tech relations and the political sensitivity of TikTok's role in American elections.

The coming weeks will test ByteDance's ability to meet Washington's demands. Failure to comply could cost TikTok access to one of its largest and most lucrative markets.
