New Delhi- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said Ayushman Bharat, launched on September 23, 2018, has brought a revolution in public healthcare, providing both financial protection and dignity to its beneficiaries.
The flagship scheme offers an annual health cover of ₹5 lakh and extends coverage to the poor and all senior citizens above the age of 70.
On X, Modi tweeted,“Today we mark 7 years of Ayushman Bharat. This initiative anticipated future healthcare needs, ensuring top-quality and affordable services for all. Thanks to it, India is witnessing a revolution in public healthcare. It has ensured financial protection and dignity.”
He added,“India has demonstrated how scale, compassion, and technology can advance human empowerment.”
According to an official handle tagged by the Prime Minister, the scheme now covers over 55 crore citizens, making it the“world's largest health assurance programme,” with more than 42 crore Ayushman cards issued so far.
