Russia Says It Took Control of Key Village in Ukraine

(MENAFN) On Monday, Russia announced that its forces had taken control of another settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, intensifying its ongoing offensive. According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the village of Kalynivske, located roughly 29 kilometers (18 miles) west of the strategically significant town of Velyka Novosilka, has fallen under Russian control.

Russia first claimed to have seized Velyka Novosilka in January, a key town positioned near the convergence of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Kalynivske lies nearly 10 km (6.2 miles) west of this tri-junction point, and approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) north of the administrative border separating Dnipropetrovsk from Zaporizhzhia.

In response, Ukraine's General Staff stated earlier that Russian forces had conducted 20 assaults across nine settlements on the Novopavlivka front over the past 24 hours. Among these was the village of Novomykolaivka, located about 3 km (1.8 miles) southeast of Kalynivske. Moscow had claimed control of Novomykolaivka as of last Friday.

Despite Russia’s assertions, Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the latest reports, and independent verification of these claims remains challenging amid the ongoing conflict.
