Palestinian Envoy To UN Calls On Int'l Community To Forbid Israel's Criminal Plans

NEW YORK, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Riyad Mansour called on the international community to take decisive measures to deter Israel from continuing "to implement its criminal plans."
This came in a speech Amb. Mansour delivered Thursday evening before the UN Security Council, after it failed to adopt a draft resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza due to the United States' use of its veto.
He stressed that the international community has the ability to implement immediate and effective accountability measures, by deploying an international protection force to Gaza".
He called on the leaders who will gather in New York during the General Assembly's high-level week to "take decisions that will save Gaza, Palestine, and peace process in the Middle East".
The Palestinian delegate announced that the General Assembly would vote Friday on a resolution calling for the presence of Palestinian leaders in New York to attend the General Assembly's high-level week.
On Thursday, the Security Council failed to adopt a draft resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza after the United States used its veto, while 14 of the 15 council members supported the draft.
The draft resolution was submitted by the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council including Pakistan, Panama, Algeria, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Guyana, and Greece.(end)
