Ukraine Ready To Share Experience With Poland On Creating 'Drone Line' Shmyhal

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to an Ukrinform correspondent, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this at a joint press briefing with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

"We are talking about training engineers and training soldiers who will counter and protect the so-called air domain. This is not just about interceptor drones, which are only the tip of the iceberg of what allows our countries to defend our skies together. Coordination is crucial - the work of dozens of different services and pieces of equipment, from electronic warfare systems to radar installations of various levels - local and strategic - as well as acoustic sensors to detect drones at ultra-low altitudes, where radars cannot capture them," Shmyhal said.

He stressed the importance of distinguishing enemy targets in wartime conditions, since the cost of intercepting a decoy drone and a ballistic missile is vastly different.

Shmyhal also said Ukraine is ready to share its experience in creating a "drone line."

"Beyond protecting airspace, we are ready to share our experience in building the so-called 'drone line,' which works in coordination with electronic warfare. This involves everything from trench-level and personal EW, to object-level, tactical, and large strategic EW complexes that operate like an orchestra - in sync with FPV drones, strike drones, and reconnaissance drones. These create entire ecosystems that form both a drone wall on the ground and a drone-missile dome, an aviation dome in the sky," he said.

He noted that defense innovations are emerging daily and that the enemy is also learning, copying, and attempting to modernize similar technologies. That is why, he said, it is vital to keep pace with changes and share knowledge with close partners.

"Today we agreed to provide our Polish colleagues with access to specific software products, allowing them to anticipate all Russian attacks, including those potentially aimed at our neighbors and friends. We will expand this cooperation, sharing our software and information, and coordinating our actions and efforts at both military and technical levels," Shmyhal said.

He added that similar arrangements are being made with other EU countries.

"We also have preliminary agreements with the European Union, with Mr. [EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius] Kubilius. We also agreed to share our expertise with all frontline EU states. This work will move forward with Poland as our closest ally, but also with the EU as a whole," Shmyhal said.

Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz arrived in Kyiv on Thursday, September 18, for an official visit.
