Car Plows into FBI Pittsburgh Office
(MENAFN) A man who drove his vehicle into the gates of the FBI’s Pittsburgh office early Wednesday in what the agency described as a targeted attack has been taken into custody, authorities confirmed.
The FBI reported that the incident took place at 2:40 a.m. local time on Wednesday, and fortunately, no injuries were sustained.
The suspect, identified as Donald Henson from Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, reportedly removed an American flag from his white sedan and threw it onto the damaged gate before fleeing on foot, according to an earlier statement by the agency.
Several hours afterward, the FBI announced that Henson had been apprehended.
During a press briefing, FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Giordano said authorities were treating the episode “as an act of terror against the FBI,” as cited by a news agency.
Giordano added that there was “some vulgarity” written on the side of the car, though specifics have not been disclosed. He noted that the message appeared to reference suicide.
The agent further explained that the man, who had been identified as the registered owner of the sedan, had a history of military service.
Officials suggested that Henson might have been facing mental health challenges recently.
Giordano noted that the suspect had visited the FBI Pittsburgh office in the past few weeks to file a complaint, which “didn’t make a whole lot of sense.”
