Dr. Mhlangabezi Slayi is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Global Change, University of Fort Hare, South Africa. He holds a PhD in Animal Science, with a research focus on pasture ecology, climate-smart livestock systems, and sustainable rangeland restoration. Dr. Slayi is an NRF Y2-rated researcher and has authored over 31 peer-reviewed journal articles, 63% of which are published in Q1 journals. His interdisciplinary work integrates indigenous knowledge, empirical field studies, and participatory approaches to address climate change impacts on communal farming systems. He has led and collaborated on research projects funded by the NRF and WRC, particularly those aimed at improving food security and rural livelihoods in semi-arid regions. Dr. Slayi is also actively involved in postgraduate student supervision, academic mentoring, and has presented his work at several international conferences, including the Global Change Conference, SASAS Congress, and the Green and Sustainable Development Conference in Rwanda. His passion lies in using science as a tool for social transformation in agriculture.
